The United States’s most elite soldiers jump headfirst into the line of fire in SEAL Team. The seven-season drama series created by Benjamin Cavell (The Stand) is now available to watch in its entirety on Netflix. David Boreanaz (Bones) stars as Jason Hayes, senior chief of the Navy SEAL Bravo Team unit. The group, including their new rookie (Max Thieriot), is tasked with carrying out some of the world’s most dangerous black ops missions — which come with a heavy professional and personal toll.
The series kicks off with Jason (Boreanaz) attending a mandated therapy session, which he dismisses as being useless. But he’s clearly been struggling with the loss of his friend and brother-in-arms Nate Massey (Daniel Gillies), who was killed in action under Jason’s command. Jason carries the guilt of his friend’s death, and is still present in Nate’s family’s life, perhaps to the detriment of his own family’s well-being. He’s separated from his wife, Alanna (Michaela McManus), and sometimes struggles to be a present father to their kids, Emma (Kerri Medders) and Mikey (Ammon Jacob Ford).
Despite his issues at home, Jason’s work life is going swimmingly. There’s always a new mission to focus on, and he has his trusted teammates at his side. They include his even-keeled second-in-command, Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr.); good ol’ boy and K-9 handler Sonny Quinn (A.J. Buckley); and devoted CIA analyst Mandy Ellis (Jessica Paré). They’ve been “strapped” with a skilled new recruit, the self-assured Clay Spenser (Thieriot), whose reputation precedes him as the son of a former SEAL who wrote an unsanctioned book about his time in the force. Jason has his misgivings, but Clay joins them for the first time on a mission to capture ISIS terrorist Abu Samir al-Masri (Ahmed Lucan) in Liberia. The extraction is complicated by a hostage situation, so Jason concocts a plan to rescue the hostage and catch their target. However, the complex situation gets even more tense when al-Masri resorts to extreme measures, leading to Clay making a call that infuriates Jason.
Every new assignment sends Bravo Team to a thrilling (and potentially deadly) new location. But the dangers abroad — from Syria to the South China Sea to Brazil — have nothing on the terrors found at home and in Jason’s nightmares. The action-packed series SEAL Team consists of 114 episodes, and also stars Toni Trucks (Corporate), Justin Melnick (Justified: City Primeval), Tyler Grey (Elevation), and Judd Lormand (Lilly).
