    Ice, ice, baby.

For most people, the colder months are a time to prioritize staying warm and cozy. The best winter days are those spent with a roaring fire in the living room, a soft blanket on the couch, and a freshly made cup of your favorite hot beverage in your hands.

But for winter sports athletes — and avid Winter Olympics fans — these frigid days and nights are peak season. It’s as if the palpable drop in temperature corresponds with a jump in adrenaline. Whether out on the rink or up on a mountain, these chilly locations are magnificent playing fields for ice hockey, figure skating, skiing, ice dancing, and more. May these movies and shows help you relish in that crisp and invigorating competitive spirit.

Off Track

Is it a midlife crisis or a massive adventure? The Swedish dramedy introduces Lisa (Katia Winter), a down-and-out single mother. In a fit of desperation, she suits up and attempts to ski Vasaloppet, the annual 90-kilometer long-distance cross-country ski race. She trains with Daniel (Fredrik Hallgren), her perfectionist brother who would rather hit the slopes than focus on his marital problems. Keep the athletics going with the sequel Off Track 2, in which Lisa seeks out a 200-mile-long bicycle race around Lake Vättern.

Ski into Love

Feeling down? Get up to the slopes. That’s the premise of this Chinese drama, which centers on manga artist Wei Zhi (Esther Yu). Facing a plagiarism scandal that shuts down her studio and threatens her career, she decides to escape to a ski resort. While there, she meets Shan Chong (Yi Lin), a ski instructor with a complicated relationship with the sport. The two help each other reignite their passions for their respective careers — and open their hearts to romance.

Spinning Out

Kaya Scodelario (The Gentlemen) stars in this show as Kat Baker, a figure skater whose dreams of competing in the Olympics are dashed after suffering a serious injury. The longtime solo athlete is given the opportunity to restart her career as a pairs skater with Justin (Evan Roderick), who notoriously can’t keep a partner. Kat attempts to do it all while keeping her struggle with bipolar disorder a secret.

Zero Chill

In this teen drama series, Grace Beedie and Dakota Benjamin Taylor play the athletic MacBentley twins —  sister Kayla (Beedie) is a figure skater, and brother Mac (Taylor) is an ice hockey player. When Mac is offered a spot at a prestigious hockey academy, the entire family relocates from Canada to England — a change that forces Kayla to leave everything behind. She must find her place on the ice again and step out from behind the shadow of her superstar sibling.
