Halloween decorations go seriously too far in Netflix’s upcoming Halloween comedy, The Curse of Bridge Hollow. When a science teacher (Marlon Wayans) moves his family from Brooklyn to the quiet community of Bridge Hollow, his teenage daughter, Syd (Priah Ferguson), soon learns that this small town can be full of surprises. After an ancient spirit, Stingy Jack, causes the Halloween decor in Bridge Hollow to come to life, father and daughter team up to take down the creepy creatures that are terrorizing the town.

The Halloween movie marks Ferguson’s first lead role in a feature film. She took a break from monster hunting to grace the red carpet at The Curse of Bridge Hollow premiere at the Tudum Theater in Los Angeles on Oct. 8. She was joined by castmates, including Kelly Rowland who plays her mother, Emily, and director Jeff Wadlow.
“I always wanted to lead in a film, that’s always been my dream,” the 16-year-old star told Tudum on the red carpet. “I enjoyed myself. I love Halloween. I’m a very festive person, I just like celebrating stuff.”

The Curse of Bridge Hollow is a celebration of Halloween but also a celebration of strong father-daughter relationships, something Ferguson’s co-star Rowland was particularly happy to be a part of.
“I love the script because of the fact that it’s family oriented, the dynamic between father and daughter, the bond between father and daughter,” she said. “I’ve never seen Black characters in this kind of script and this kind of world, and it’s just so cool and I’m so grateful for this opportunity.”
While the co-lead and producer of The Curse of Bridge Hollow, Wayans, couldn’t make it to the premiere, his impact on the film was felt and expressed by the cast and crew. “I’ve always loved Marlon. You can’t keep a straight face because even when he’s not trying to be funny he’s funny,” Rowland shared. Wadlow credited Wayans with helping bring the entire story to life.
“I wanted to make The Curse of Bridge Hollow because I love Marlon Wayans, I love Halloween and I’m a huge Netflix fan. So you put the three of those things together and it was a no-brainer for me,” he said.

“[The Curse of Bridge Hollow] is a great movie to watch if you just want to have fun,” Wadlow continued. “Not everyone wants to watch a movie around Halloween that’s going to keep them up all night; this movie has some genuine scares but it’s really more of like a roller coaster than a true horror movie. You’ll laugh, you’ll scream, maybe you’ll shed a tear. You’ll just have a great time.”
However, there may be one person who isn’t looking at the spooky season quite the same after seeing the movie.
“My son just came to me and told me he wanted to decorate the house for Halloween, and I was in shock because I showed him the movie and it scared the mess out of him!” Rowland shared with a laugh.
