Nothing will get your kid more excited to watch a movie than a catchy song that’s impossible to get out of your head — and this week’s pick for Family Movie Night, Over the Moon, is full of them. Seriously, the songs in this Academy Award–nominated film are sweeter than the moon cakes that the main character, Fei Fei, makes with her dad.

Over the Moon, which made its Netflix debut in October 2020, focuses on Fei Fei (Cathy Ang), a resourceful, imaginative young girl living with her father and reeling from the death of her mother. Fei Fei believes in both her dreams of space exploration and in the legend of the moon goddess Chang’e, who resides in outer space. So Fei Fei does what any normal preteen would do — she builds a rocket to the moon to prove that Chang’e is real. But while she’s on her journey, she discovers that she has a lot more to prove than just the existence of a legend.

The film’s got it all: supercute sidekicks, wild creatures and, best of all, a stellar original soundtrack. Just take the pop jam “Ultraluminary,” performed by Chang’e (voiced by Broadway legend Phillipa Soo), a certified bop. The song not only introduces Fei Fei to Chang’e’s larger-than-life home of Lunaria, but it’s filled with inspiring lyrics that are uplifting to hear. “I am the brightest star,” Chang’e sings. “Superb, spectacular.” Everyone in the family will definitely have these songs stuck in their heads for days to come.
