Not many people can handle being told “Shut up!” by Nicole Kidman, let alone Sarah Michelle Gellar, Hudson Williams, and a rotating guest list of A-list celebrities. But Evan Ross Katz is known for embracing the chaos that comes with a juicy conversation.
Now the writer, podcast host, and cultural commentator is bringing his signature voice to Netflix with the brand-new video podcast, Shut Up Evan, inspired by his GLAAD Media Award–nominated series of the same name and produced by 32 Flavors.
Launching with a premiere episode on May 1, Shut Up Evan will air twice a week. “Deep in the DMs With…” will feature intimate one-on-one conversation with actors, musicians, and tastemakers shaping the culture on Tuesdays. Then, Evan will be joined on Fridays by a rotating panel of celebrity guests for “The Group Chat” to unpack the buzziest topics of the week.
“It's an honor (understatement) to bring my podcast over to the wondrous world of Netflix. As an OG since the red envelope days, there's no better place to call home,” says Katz. “They've helped turn a passion project where I once interviewed stars like Cole Escola in my studio apartment (with a microphone I'd forget to connect to my computer) into a full-fledged video podcast. They've helped expand the scope beyond the show's signature deep dive interviews, adding a rotating panel of guests I can't wait for you to meet, who will be breaking down everything happening across the pop culture universe with me — from TV and film to memes and music, awards shows and events — and maybe even the occasional opera or ballet.”
Once deemed the “most valuable hypeman in the history of television” by Mike White and “simply the best in the business” by Ryan Murphy, Katz has spent his career as an entertainment journalist analyzing pop culture with a cheeky sense of humor. The chronically online meme king has built a devoted following thanks to his fan-first approach and ability to create engaging conversations with talented folks across Hollywood and beyond. Katz has also written profiles and interviews for a slew of global publications, in addition to hosting companion podcasts for series, including The Comeback, Love Story, The Beauty, and White Lotus.
Katz’s industry knowledge runs deep, backed by accolades such as being named one of FastCompany’s “Most Creative People in Business,” one of the “50 Reasons We (Still) Love Hollywood” by the Hollywood Reporter, and one of the Washington Post's "Next 50."
