In Lovesick, Claire Danes is sinking her teeth into life, death, and the messy stories in between.

The straight-to-series Netflix drama stars Danes as Annika, a renowned breast cancer surgeon whose world changes after she receives her own cancer diagnosis. Created, written, and executive produced by Sarah Treem — co-creator and showrunner of The AffairLovesick follows two people whose lives unexpectedly intertwine, and is based on the Keshet original series by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon for Keshet 12.

“I’m thrilled to get to tell this story with the genius Claire Danes,” Treem says. “We’ve been looking for something to do together for a very long time, and this character, Annika, is perhaps a mix of both of our wildest dreams.”

Lovesick joins a stacked roster of upcoming Netflix dramas, including East of Eden, a Florence Pugh-led adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel, and The Altruists, which untangles Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison’s doomed business and romantic partnership. Also coming is Kennedy, an intimate portrait of the famed family; The Corrections, an adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s best-selling novel, starring Meryl Streep; and Rabbit, Rabbit, a series that finds Adam Driver on the run.

What is Lovesick about?

Annika, a renowned breast cancer surgeon, has just been diagnosed with cancer herself. Her new patient, Nate, is a promising politician. The series explores their interwoven lives, delving into themes of love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine, and the meaning of life — all while Annika is simultaneously undergoing breast cancer treatment.

“To get to tell a story about all the things keeping me up at night anyway — life, death, children, love, middle age, courage, science and faith — is an extraordinary opportunity I don’t take lightly in these turbulent times,” Treem says.

Who’s in the cast of Lovesick

Danes (Homeland, The Beast in Me) is the only confirmed cast member so far. She will executive produce the series alongside Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir (Homeland, Our Boys) and Keren Shahar (Unconditional, Total Control), and Peter Traugott (Echo 3, La Brea).

More casting details to come.
