What happens in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call?

After too many avoidable deaths across the nation, South Korea’s Minister of Health and Welfare, Kang Myeong-hui (Kim Sun-young) demands that the country’s trauma response care be revitalized. But her pleas since being sworn in have gone unanswered. The head of Seoul’s Hankuk National University Hospital, Choi Jo-eun (Kim Eui-sung) — who’s more concerned with his business interests than his patients’ best interests — has failed to give any of the center’s funding to its trauma unit. But all that’s about to change, or at least that’s the plan of Dr. Baek Kang-hyuk (Ju Ji-hoon), who’s been a combat surgeon in war zones all over the world and now has the chance to lead Hankuk’s trauma team. Despite his renown and genius methods in the OR, Kang-hyuk is up against the hospital’s top brass. Will he be able to band together with his stellar medical team, like trauma nurse Cheon Jang-mi (Ha Young) and surgery fellow Yang Jae-won (Choo), to save lives and beat the system?

Is The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call based on a book?
